DETAILED DIRECTIONS TO THE ALAMO CITY CORVAIR COLLEGE: Go west on State Hwy. 471 (Culebra Road) past Anderson Loop (Loop 1604). 3-1/2 miles past Loop 1604 (past Taft High School) on your left is a radio tower with a strobe on top, at Galm Road. Keep going. Past that Talley Road cuts off to your left. Keep going and the road will do a sweeping S-turn to the left then right. 2-1/2 miles past the lighted radio tower (total of 6 miles west of Loop 1604) is the gated entry to San Geronimo Airpark on your left. Directly across from the entry is a subdivision, Geronimo Forest, with a sign that’s much easier to spot than the Airpark sign. If you go too far you’ll see an Exxon station on your right and a place called “Stump’s” with a miniature windmill out front. If you see that, just turn around and go back about 100 yds. Stump’s is a restaurant/convenience store where we will be eating lunch on Saturday. Locals may prefer going west/northwest out Hwy. 16 (Bandera Road) past 1604 to Helotes, then turn left on 1560 (Galm Road) for 7 miles to Hwy. 471. Then right on 471 for 2-1/2 miles, as described above. Once you pull into the drive at San Geronimo Airpark, go a couple of hundred yards and you’ll see the EAA clubhouse on your left in a stand of large trees, and a row of three long hangars along the runway. Just past the last hangar (the tan colored one) take the first right, a dirt taxiway up to Lew Mason’s hangar/workshop where you should see CorvAIRCRAFT activity! The nearest motels are 8-10 miles in, along Loop 410 and Hwy. 90. Lowest prices will be the Red Roof Inn at 6880 NW Loop 410 (about 12 miles from San Geronimo) and the Best Western Lackland Inn at 6815 Hwy. 90 W (about the same distance). Closest motel is the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort at 9800 Resort Drive… starting at $170/night!
